I was warming up next to Jordan Love in California last week.
So I asked him something I ask every great athlete.
"What was the pivotal moment you knew you'd become a next-level QB?"
He thought about it. Really thought about it.
Then he told me the truth.
There was no pivotal moment.
He was a 120-pound freshman once. Now he's a 6'4", 225-pound NFL starter. And the whole climb came down to one thing.
Little bits of feedback. Every single day. Reminding him he was on the right path.
His consistency just kept compounding.
That was his aha moment. Not a highlight. Not a game. A quiet realization that if he showed up every day, he'd level up - because nobody else wanted it as bad as he did.
I've studied this same pattern in the Navy SEALs. The number one thing that predicts who makes it isn't talent. It's desire. The raw want to be there before you ever start.
Jordan had the desire. So he built the consistency. And the consistency built the player.
Later we walked into the classroom, and I was locked in on every word.
He said something I won't forget.
"The NFL means Not For Long. You earn this job every single day."
His confidence doesn't come from hype. It comes from a non-negotiable daily plan that gets him 1% better. Then on game day, he talks to himself like the champ he's trained to be. Best player on the field. Put in the work. Time to prove it.
That's the whole game.
This is exactly what I build with my athletes. Systems for self-talk, preparation, and the mental game. Then we adjust the process until the results show up.
I told one of my guys last week: "I don't care about your performance right now. You're rewiring your brain. The performance will follow."
He agreed. And it will.
Because the mindset comes first. Always.
I broke all of this down in a video on building real confidence - the kind Jordan Love was talking about.
