Warning: Somewhat emotional email here, but it might be needed. I've recently been thinking about how to simply optimize my day to stay positive and patient. This is what I really need. You might need something else, like a means to stay grounded and focused or motivated. Either way, I keep circling back to the same word: triggers. Hear me out. A fitness coach will tell you not to keep sweets in the house (trigger BAD behavior), but keep healthy food around. All triggers. So how do we use triggers to keep us in check? Well let's put the phone to good use. For example, this morning I used the phone to dictate this email on a walk in the mountains (Smoky). Once I finished, my algorith hit me with a shot to the heart, check it out: talk about hit me like a ton of bricks, to make it worse my son is ACTUALLY being Buzz for Halloween. Subtle trigger to influence me in the right mindset. I had a bit of a victim mindset yesterday after traveling for 9 hours, but now? Fighter. I threw my phone down so fast, and ran up to him and grabbed him and swung him all over the place, thanks to this trigger. Now this is my challenge, use the triggers as much as possible so that I can slowly rewire my brain to think like this all the time! How can I get my little rascals to be my trigger? Put this in the perspective of an athlete. What can you do to shift your mindset and rewire your thought process each day? "When you walk into that practice facility each day, ask yourself 3 things. From that point, I'd be ready to roll. However, I'd need a TRIGGER to remind me of that. In that sense, I'd probably put htose questions on an index card and put them on my dashboard. Simplicity always wins. If you want simple psychology-backed ways to rewire your mind for success, check out this video I created that'll answer your top questions in about 7 minutes: I hope you find this helpful, I know I would've if I was still a competitive athlete.
